1897-01-25 (136lbs) Pat Daly w pts 15 Billy Hill, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Billed for the world 136lbs title claimed by Hill (134), according to the Mirror of Life Daly weighed 133½lbs, while the Sporting Life gave both men at 135lbs. Although Daly started reasonably well so did Hill, and in the third round after landing well with straight punches he forced the Britisher over. There was far too much holding for it to be exciting, but by the middle rounds Daly was scoring well to the body and at times hurting Hill. Hill came on well after the tenth, especially with long swinging punches, but Daly met him blow for blow, fully deserving the decision due to his cleaner work.
Daly, now considered the best man at 136lbs in Britain, was soon fighting at heavier weights.
