1897-02-08 (133lbs) Kid Lavigne w pts 25 Kid McPartland, Broadway AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Dick Roche. Billed for the American and world 133lb titles, McPartland (133) was momentarily down in the second round, but was soon back on his feet and although the champion forced the fight from first to last he was unable to repeat the dose. McPartland, the taller man by six inches, often speared Lavigne (131½) with the left but it made no difference and it was only by boxing on the back foot that he made it to the final bell.
