1897-02-20 (125lbs) Martin Flaherty w pts 20 Frank Erne, New York AC, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Arthur Moore. Made at 125lbs, Flaherty, who was floored in the 17th round, showed quality work when defeating the 122lbs champion, and at the same time also successfully held on to his American title claim at the weight. To be fair, Erne was somewhat hampered by a badly cut left eye from the seventh onwards, but although he came back strongly in the last two sessions he was unable to claw back Flaherty’s advantage.
