1897-02-22 (120lbs) [[Ben Jordan]] w rsc 13 (20) [[Fred Johnson]], NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Billed for the English 120lbs title, for several rounds it was a good fight, both men doing excellent work, but by the seventh Johnson (119) appeared to weakening before being dropped twice in the eighth. It was Jordan’s attention to the body that was causing Johnson all kinds of distress. After fighting back gamely Johnson was dropped by a right to the jaw, and when cut over the left eye his task seemed to be a hopeless one. At the juncture Jordan (119) seemed to be as fresh as when he started. All but used up coming into the 13th, Johnson was staggering around badly shaken when the referee came to his aid to halt what had become an uneven affair.
