9 March (115lbs) Sammy Kelly w co 20 (20) Billy Plimmer, Olympic Club, Birmingham, England. Billed for the world 115lbs title, while not the wonderful fighter of old Plimmer was still a class act and he matched punches with the faster Kelly for most of the rounds contested. It had to have been close going into the 20th, but putting everything in to one last effort Kelly found Plimmer’s jaw with a smashing right and the latter fell face down. Somehow getting himself up just before the count was concluded, Plimmer was all at sea and it was hardly unexpected that Kelly immediately had him over with a similar blow. This time Plimmer would not be getting up and was counted out with just 12 seconds of the contest remaining.
