1897-04-13 (122lbs) Tommy White w pts 20 Eddie Curry, Broadway AC, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Dick Roche. Made at 122lbs, White successfully maintained his claim at the weight when outscoring Curry in a skilful but slow bout. The New York Herald reported that White took the fight to Curry right from the opening bell and forced his opponent on to the defensive, sending in left jabs thick and fast to the latter’s face. This situation continued for quite a while without dislodging Curry and in the 16th he spun White around with a terrific right hand before realising that he had left it too late.
