1897-04-13 (122lbs) Tommy White w pts 20 Eddie Curry, Broadway AC, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Dick Roche. Made at 122lbs, White successfully maintained his claim at the weight when outscoring Curry in a skilful but slow bout. The New York Herald reported that White took the fight to Curry right from the opening bell when forcing his opponent on to the defensive while sending in left jabs thick and fast to the latter’s face. This situation continued for quite a time without dislodging Curry. It was only when Curry spun White around with a terrific right hand in the 16th that he realised he had left it too late.
