1897-04-26 (128lbs) Ted Marlow w co 2 (20) Ben Clark, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Made at 128lbs, Marlow (126) slipped down three times in the first round which seemed to encourage Clark (128), who adopted aggressive tactics. However, trying to chase his rival down in the second, Clark walked into a cracking right to the jaw that sent him down to be counted out. Despite there being no billing as such, Marlow still claimed the English title at the weight on his victory.
