1897-05-17 (128lbs) Spike Sullivan w disq 19 (20) Jack Downey, Broadway AC, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Dick Roche. Made at 128lbs, following his victory Sullivan challenged the world at that weight but was soon fighting at 130lbs plus. The fight itself was fast and furious and in the 19th round Downey, who had already scored two knockdowns, swung Sullivan to his knees and proceeded to strike him twice, which led to his disqualification.
