1897-05-31 (102lbs) Harry McDermott w disq 8 (20) Harry Brodigan, Standard Theatre, Gateshead, England. Referee: George M. Wells. Billed for the English 102lbs title, McDermott (102) took the opening five rounds before Brodigan (102) got himself back into the contest in the sixth. However, Brodigan was badly hurt in the seventh, when floored by a right hand, and although he lasted to the bell he was disqualified in the eighth after twice going to the floor without being hit.
