1897-06-23 (160lbs) George Chrisp w disq 12 (20) Edward Starlight Rollins, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: Edward Humphreys. Made at 160lbs, although there was no championship billing attached it was generally recognised that the winner would have some right to the Imperial British Empire title at the weight. By the fifth both men had got into their stride, Chrisp (158) working well to the body while Rollins (157½) made a target of the head. However, it was not until the tenth that the Australian won a round even though it had been competitive from the opening bell. With Chrisp concentrating on the body there had been a fair bit of holding on by Rollins throughout, but in the 11th and 12th after being spoken to by the referee on a number of occasions for holding and hitting the latter was disqualified when the warnings were clearly having no effect on him.
