1897-08-09 (104lbs) Mike Small w co 7 (20) Bob Bailey, Excelsior School of Arms, Sheffield, England. Referee: Johnny Davis. Billed for the English 104lbs title, the fight had initially been made for 2 August but was put back to allow Small an extra week to make the weight. Having won the opening four rounds, Bailey (104) went down in the fifth unsuccessfully claiming to have been fouled, and in the sixth both men were knocked down in turn in what was a hot session. In the seventh, as Bailey rushed in to the attack, Small (104) caught his man with a tremendous right to the jaw that brought about the finish when the Sheffield man was counted out.
