1897-08-23 (116lbs) [[Sammy Kelly]] w rsc 17 (20) [[Austin Rice]], South Beach AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Tom Sharkey. Billed for the American 116lbs title, with both men inside, Kelly used his left hand all the way, closing both of Rice’s eyes, but could not finish him off. Eventually, in the 17th, with Rice being driven all over the ring the police ordered the referee to call a halt just as he was about to halt it in Kelly’s favour anyway.
