1897-09-14 (128lbs) Billy O’Donnell drew 20 Eddie Curry, South Beach AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Sam Austin. With the men inside 123lbs, O’Donnell’s claim at 128lbs was at stake in this one and the decision of a draw was seen to be a fair result after it was reported to be one of the fastest and hardest boxing exhibitions to have taken place in New York since the Horton Law was introduced. Both O’Donnell and Curry were up for it and it was give and take all the way with nothing much between them. However, next time out, on 15 October 1897, O’Donnell was outpointed over 20 rounds by Joe Bernstein at 124lbs at the Greenpoint AC, Brooklyn, NYC and thus forfeited any recognition he had at 128lbs on the result.
