1897-09-16 (118lbs) Oscar Gardner w pts 20 Tommy Dixon, National AC, Germania Hall, Rochester, New York, USA. Thought to be a match made at 118lbs, the Rochester Union and Advertiser, despite failing to report the fighters’ weights, stated in pre-fight reports that Gardner was out to regain his former laurels. Although the result was a foregone conclusion from the start, Gardner was unable to knock the unbeaten Dixon out. Badly punished, Dixon was on the defensive throughout, being barely recognizable at the finish, while Gardner was unmarked.
