1897-11-01 (110lbs) Jack Walker w rsc 3 (20) Johnny Thomas, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Billed for the vacant English 110lbs title, £50-a-side, and a £50 purse, both men were stated to be inside the stipulated weight. Having well won the opening round, Walker twice dropped Thomas in the second, the last occasion seeing the latter saved by the bell. With the third session underway, after Walker had sent in a left-right-left to head, body and jaw to drop Thomas face down on the canvas the fight was stopped.
Walker, who could get down to 104lbs without any difficulty, challenged the world following his victory but had no takers.
