2 December (114lbs) Harry Ware w co 19 (20) Dick Parkes, Excelsior Baths, Bethnal Green, London, England. Made as a defence of Ware’s English 114lbs title claim Parkes could have taken it over by forfeit when Ware (114½) came in above the weight, but having decided against it the fight went on at catchweights. Strangely allowing Parkes to make all the running, Ware did not get going until the 18th round when realising his rival was fast weakening. Speaking afterwards Ware said this had been his plan but he certainly left it late in the fight, especially with Parkes way out in front. In the 18th Ware finally let the punches go, downing his rival with a right cross, and although Parkes got up and made it into the 19th he was finished off in that session when another right to the jaw dropped him for the full count.
