1897-12-13 (120lbs) Jabez White w co 5 (20) George Corfield, Curzon Hall, Birmingham, England. Referee: George Dunning. Made at 120lbs, White had height and reach advantages over Corfield, and by the fourth round his jabs had caused the latter’s left eye to swell. With White never giving Corfield a moment’s rest, tracking him around the ring, it was clear that to avoid trouble Corfield would have to use the ring to its maximum. Although Corfield got on his toes in the fifth he was rapidly becoming tired and demoralised from the effects of the blows coming his way, it being no surprise when a right swing from White sent him down to be counted out.

There was no title billing allocated, but some of the Midland papers claimed that White should now be recognised as the English 120lbs champion. Despite that, White was unimpressed and never boxed below 120lbs again.
