1898-03-11 (120lbs) Tom Turner w rsc 8 (12) Harry Williams, Norfolk Road Drill Hall, Sheffield, England. Referee: John S. Barnes. Billed as an English 120lbs Championship Belt contest, the first few rounds saw Williams landing the more solidly while Turner was happy to use sharp left jabs to keep his man off balance. In the sixth Turner came more into it, evading punches cleverly by head movement before smashing in solid lefts, and at the end of the session Williams appeared to be on the wane. In the seventh Williams continued to come forward, looking to work the body, but it was Turner who was the more effective, picking up the attack for the first time in the eighth. There was no holding Turner at this stage. After putting Williams down with a heavy blow under the heart he dropped his rival three more times in the session before the referee stopped the fight.
