1898-03-17 (137lbs) Kid Lavigne drew 20 Jack Daly, Central Armory, Cleveland, Ohio, USA. Referee: Kid McCoy. Billed for the world 137lbs lightweight title, Daly, who scored a knockdown in the fourth round and looked to have won clearly, claimed the world title at that weight on 25 June by default after Lavigne failed to sign for a return bout. The contest had seen both men landing viciously throughout, but Daly was up for it and showed no sign of backing down.
