1898-05-23 (160lbs+) Arthur Akers w co 2 (20) Bill Chesterfield Goode, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J.Angle. Akers (162½) made the better start, appearing to be faster than Goode (166), and following some solid work inside he dropped the latter who went back to his corner at the end of the first round blowing hard having taken a short count. With Goode again under pressure in the second session, after being floored by a hard right to the cheek he gamely got up only to be met by the two-fisted Akers, now champing at the bit. This time round, Goode never stood a chance, a hard right to the jaw seeing him counted out with 40 seconds of the round remaining.
On the result, the winner had a fair claim to both the English 164 and 166lb titles.
