1898-05-26 (104lbs) Harry Brodigan w co 6 (20) Jack Hare, Excelsior School of Arms, Sheffield, England. Referee: George M. Wells. Billed for the English 104lbs title, Brodigan (104) started better than Hare (104), having the latter over in the second round before consolidating his lead at the end of the fifth. In the sixth it was clear that Brodigan was looking to end the contest, and following a clinch he spotted an opening before hammering in a heavy right-hand punch to the head that sent Hare to the boards to be counted out.

Despite his victory, with two minute-rounds in place there was not much recognition for Brodigan forthcoming.
