1898-07-01 (122lbs) Ben Jordan w pts 25 George Dixon, Lenox AC, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Charlie White. With both mens’ title claims on the line it was expected to be a humdinger, but following the contest it was generally felt that Dixon (117½) deserved a draw at the very least. Meeting Jordan (122) blow for blow Dixon had the misfortune to be cut over right eye in the 11th round, while his cause was not helped by the fact that Jordan was merely cautioned for using the elbow and going low on several occasions. However, it was the British lad’s left hand that won him the fight according to the referee.
