1898-08-01 (122lbs) Solly Smith drew 25 Tommy White, Greater New York AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Alec Brown. Billed for the world 122lbs title, many of those watching felt that White was a deserving winner, having outscored Smith in most rounds, dropped him twice, and had him groggy in the 23rd. White had also been deliberately fouled on occasion. Smith had all the speed at the start, dropping White in the fourth, but his punches were of the swinging variety while the latter’s straighter blows carried less weight.
