1898-08-01 (122lbs) Solly Smith drew 25 Tommy White, Greater New York AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Alec Brown. Billed for the world 122lbs title, many of those watching felt that White was a deserving winner, having outscored Smith in most rounds, dropped him twice, having him groggy in the 23rd, and being deliberately fouled on occasion. While Smith had all the speed at the start, and had White over in the fourth, his punches were of the swinging variety while the latter’s straighter blows carried less weight with many not being counted as point scorers.
