1898-10-03 (104lbs) Dave Job w disq 7 (20) Ernie Brady, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. While both men saw it involving the English 104lbs title, the NSC did not, having stipulated it to be contested over two-minute rounds. Using the recently introduced six-ounce gloves, the fight did not warm up until the third round when Job (102) fell down on the bottom rope after being hit on an ear. Dragged down in the fourth, by now Job was impressing all with his clever ducking and weaving, staggering Brady (104) in the fifth before the latter resorted to holding, for which he was cautioned. However, continuing to disregard further cautions Brady was eventually disqualified in the seventh.
