1898-10-10 (126lbs) Jack Roberts w co 10 (20) Bill Wood, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Made at 126lbs, Roberts gradually ground Wood down despite being badly hurt himself in the fourth round, his visitations to the body beginning to drain the latter’s strength. By the sixth it was all Roberts, and in the tenth Wood, having been battered from pillar to post, was knocked out by a heavy right to the jaw.

A convincing winner, Roberts took over Wood’s English title claim at the weight.
