18 November (115lbs) [[Harry Ware]] w pts 20 [[Charlie Simpson]], [[Olympic Club, Birmingham]], England. Referee: [[George Dunning]]. Given English title billing at 115lbs, both men boxed well and there was never much in it other than the power being with Ware (113). Twice in the opening round Ware forced Simpson (114¾) down but was unable to take advantage due to the latter’s clever boxing. Simpson returned the favour when flooring Ware in the fourth and fifth, but in the sixth his left eye was cut. The longer it went most of the betting was on a distance fight, but in the 18th Ware, who was carrying a badly swollen right eye, was extremely groggy at the end of the session and the odds began to change. However, Ware came again to drop Simpson twice in the 19th before making certain of the verdict in the 20th when pummelling his rival all over the ring.
