1898-11-25 (160lbs) Frank Craig w co 12 (20) George Chrisp, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: J. T. Hulls. Reported as involving the world 160lbs title and in what was described as one of the best contests seen in the City for a long while, Chrisp (158) put up a good fight and at times looked like winning. After taking the lead and cutting Chrisp’s mouth badly in the sixth it seemed odds on a Craig (158½) victory, but the local man had the American reeling around the ring in the seventh before the latter came back strongly with accurate lefts over the next few rounds. With Craig firmly in control, he finally caught up with Chrisp at the start of the 12th and after measuring his man a right swing to the jaw brought the fight to a conclusion.
