1898-11-29 (122lbs) George Dixon w pts 25 Oscar Gardner, Lenox AC, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Dick Roche. Billed for the American 122lbs world title with both men inside the weight, Dixon did nearly all the leading while Gardner used cleverness to counter his opponent forcibly. While there were no knockdowns, although Gardner fell over a couple of times on stepping back, the pace never slackened and it was contested in a sporting manner.
