1898-12-08 (116lbs) Austin Rice drew 20 George Monroe, Palace AC, Madison Hall, Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA. Referee: Jack Rose. As in their first bout it involved the American 116lbs title, with both men being inside the weight according to the Boston Post. Munroe showed up as the cleverer man, but it was Rice who did all the forcing from the opening bell, landing telling body blows that were designed to take the steam out of his opponent. Regardless of that, Monroe deserved the draw after scoring well at times with counters from both hands.
