1898-12-12 (116lbs) Pedlar Palmer w rsc 17 (20) Billy Plimmer, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Billed for the world title, it did not take Palmer (116) long to take the ascendancy, giving Plimmer (115) two for every one he received as he speeded around the ring while making for an almost impossible target. Down in the fourth, outworked and outpunched, Plimmer tried his hardest to find the target with heavy blows but by the 15th he had run out of steam and was really up against it as Palmer moved in with both hands to score freely. Punched around the ring in the 16th, it was now just a matter of time for Plimmer and in the 17th a smashing left-right combination to the head dropped him, whereupon the referee immediately halted the fight.
