1899-01-30 (140lbs) Jim Holloway w pts 20 Jewey Cooke, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Despite it being a mere two-minute rounder at 140lbs, the South African, who had come to England to force a fight with either Dick Burge or Bobby Dobbs at 144lbs, had to settle for an Imperial British Empire title shot at ten stone instead. Moving around at speed and punching away with both hands when in range, Holloway proved far too aggressive, determined and fast for Cooke, having the latter over in the 14th following some heavy blows delivered on the inside. It was only in the 16th that Cooke began to have some successes, having clinched far too often, and in the 18th he had Holloway in real trouble at the end of the session. Made of stern stuff, however, Holloway came back to nullify all of Cooke’s further efforts to walk off with the decision.
