1899-02-23 (126lbs) Oscar Gardner drew 20 Martin Flaherty, Hawthorne AC, Hartford, Connecticut, USA. Referee: Charlie White. Billed for the 126lbs championship of the world despite Tommy White having a good claim, the result proved inconclusive. While Flaherty was the aggressor in the early part of the contest, Gardner came on strong towards the finish with some cracking blows to even up the points.
