1899-03-01 (144lbs) Bobby Dobbs w co 2 (20) Pat McDonald, Standard Theatre, Gateshead, England. A return fight at 144lbs saw the badly-matched McDonald knocked out in the second round. Although McDonald began reasonably well it was soon clear that Dobbs had been carrying him throughout the first round when he opened up in the second. Knocked down heavily by a right to the head it was a surprise that McDonald made it to his feet, but following a tremendous left hook to the jaw he crashed down with no chance of ever beating the count.

At this point in time Dobbs’ 144lbs title claim did not even make an impact in Britain, let alone America, and was quickly forgotten.
