1899-04-01 (108/110lbs) Casper Leon drew 20 Danny Dougherty, Greenwood AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Owen Ziegler. With Jimmy Barry inactive, Leon was now claiming the 110lbs title and although the Brooklyn Standard Union stated that both men were inside that weight (it was also reported elsewhere that the two men were inside 108lbs), no title billing was mentioned. With the Brooklyn Eagle calling it a rattling good mill, Dougherty made an excellent showing and was well worth the draw.

Following the contest Dougherty laid claim to the American title at 108 and 110lbs, and as a sparring partner to Terry McGovern he received plenty of support.
