1899-04-14 (133lbs) George Elbows McFadden w co 23 (25) Joe Gans, Broadway AC, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Johnny White. Made at 133lbs, Gans (133) lost his 135/137lb claims to McFadden (127) when knocked out by a right to the body and a sweet left to the jaw, the winner going forward to meet Frank Erne. Gans had been a huge favourite to win, but unable to solve McFadden’s peculiar style he had a lot of the steam taken out of him from body punches before weakening badly in the latter stages.
