1899-04-17 (116lbs) Pedlar Palmer w disq 3 (20) Billy Rotchford, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Articled for the 116lbs world title, Palmer (115¼) made an extremely fast start that surprised Rotchford (115) somewhat, the American being treated to a shower of jabs while at the same time having difficulty in finding his target. In the third round Palmer was again very busy, but before too long Rotchford, who had been dazed by several sharp punches to the head, lashed out wildly with low blows. With Palmer on the floor in some pain the referee disqualified Rotchford after telling him that it was not the first time he had struck low during the bout.
