1899-04-24 (130lbs) Ted Marlow w pts 20 Jim Barry, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Billed for the English 130lbs title, this was the sixth meeting between the pair and Barry (129½) had yet to beat Marlow (129), a draw being the closest that he had come. Marlow was well ahead by the eighth but after being staggered by a left to the mouth, followed by a heavy right, he was forced to hold on for dear life and such was his hold on Barry that both fell to their knees. Barry was not to be denied and he hurt Marlow with short-arm blows in both the tenth and 12th before the latter got back on top in the 15th, with body punches doing a fair amount of damage. Although Barry recovered somewhat, Marlow kept up the pressure to take the decision, but he was later forced to recognise that he had been taken to the limit.
