1899-05-04 (126lbs) Oscar Gardner w pts 20 Tommy Hogan, Music Hall, Louisville, Kentucky, USA. Gardner’s 126lbs title claim was at risk in this one, with both men inside the weight. While Gardner, who carried a bad cut over the right eye, concentrated on the body and looked to outbox and outpunch Hogan, the latter had his man on the verge of a kayo in the 18th immediately before the bell. With Hogan’s big chance gone Gardner made no more mistakes.
