1899-05-08 (124lbs) Jabez White w co 8 (20) Dave Wallace, New Olympic Club, Birmingham, England. Referee: Professor Hines. Billed for the world 124lbs title, White (121½), showing great condition, immediately got his straight left working while Wallace (121) relied heavily on swinging rights. In the third, fourth, sixth and seventh rounds, having missed with wild rights Wallace stumbled to the floor to take counts of ‘nine’. Coming into the eighth it seemed to be just a matter of time before Wallace was finished, and following a short right to the ribs from White the Londoner went to the floor where he was counted out.
In the aftermath, White was challenged by Harry Greenfield, who was claiming the same title before moving up in weight.
