1899-05-09 (135lbs) Frank Erne w pts 25 Elbows McFadden, Broadway AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Charlie White. Made at 134lbs, Erne successfully carried his 135lbs title claim when being adjudged the winner on points over a tough opponent who made him fight every inch of the way. Although Erne was the cleverer, McFadden was the harder hitter and it made for a fascinating fight as both men pitted their wits against each other. There were no knockdowns, but Erne’s ability to block the counter and get in blows of his own won the day.
