1899-05-12 (126lbs) Oscar Gardner drew 25 Martin Flaherty, Broadway AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Johnny White. In a return contest to decide their version of the American 126lbs title once again Gardner and Flaherty failed to produce a tangible result, but the latter should have taken advantage of the situated presented to him. Gardner really should not have been allowed to fight, his right hand gone, his left so bad that he could not use it on the head and carrying a severe cut over the right eye. To his credit, Gardner never left Flaherty alone despite being dropped in the tenth round, and fully deserved the draw. Next time out, in a contest made at 122lbs, Gardner was outpointed over 25 rounds by Jack Hamilton at the Broadway AC on 22 September, while Flaherty lost on points over 25 rounds to New York Jack O’Brien at the Lenox AC, Manhattan, NYC on 29 May.
