1899-05-29 (124lbs) Ben Jordan w co 9 (20) Harry Greenfield, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Billed for the British and world 124lb titles, Greenfield (123½), who struggled to make the weight, looked a sure loser after a couple of rounds as Jordan (123) pounded in kidney punches that had him buckling at the knees. Cautioned for a low blow and holding in the fourth Greenfield just could not get going, and in the eighth, a round that both men were warned against holding, he looked worn out. The contest came to an end in the ninth when Jordan, sensing that Greenfield could not take much more, smashed in another kidney punch that sent the latter to his knees to be counted out.
In the aftermath, Greenfield categorically stated that he would never box below 124lbs again.
