1899-06-01 (115lbs) Harry Ware w pts 20 Jim Williams, New Adelphi Club, The Strand, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Articled for the English 115lbs title, Ware set off at a fast pace and was going well until Williams came right back into it in the third. Both men were cautioned for holding in the sixth and after 11 rounds it was Williams who seemed to be the strongest of the pair. Ware looked almost out of the reckoning after falling down in the 12th, but he came back well to outscore Williams before being put down in the 17th and 18th and again looking in a bad way. The last two sessions saw both fighters extremely tired and after Ware was named the winner there were rumours in some quarters that it had been a fix.
