1899-06-30 (145lbs) [[Mysterious Billy Smith]] drew 20 [[Charlie McKeever]], Broadway AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Johnny White. The ''New York Herald'' reported this one to involve Smith’s 145lbs title claim and for long spells McKeever did not look out of it as he cut his rival up badly around the eyes. While Smith’s showing was disappointing, he was at least the aggressor throughout and administered the most punishment, especially to the body, but McKeever proved almost equally as good downstairs and produced the better left-hand work to secure a share of the spoils.
