1899-07-24 George Byers w rsc 9 (10) Charley Strong, Coney Island AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Defending the ‘black’ title, Byers was floored by Strong in the second round by a heavy left and was cut on the left eye in the third. Although fighting viciously, Strong, who came in as a replacement for Frank Childs, was flagging after the sixth and was knocked down twice in the eighth before the referee rescued him when he was almost out on his feet.
