1899-09-30 (124lbs) Dave Sullivan drew 25 Joe Bernstein, Broadway AC, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Johnny White. With George Dixon still claiming the world featherweight title at all weights between 118 and 128lbs, this one was billed for the American 123lbs (variously reported as 124lbs also) championship. Bernstein made a good start, scoring well in the first 15 rounds, before Sullivan got the bit between the teeth and fought viciously through to the 21st. In that session Sullivan floored Bernstein with a right to the jaw, and from then through to the final bell both men seemed to take it in turns to smash in blows from head to body without a further knockdown.
