1899-10-02 (135lbs) Spike Sullivan w rtd 6 Jerome Quigley, Coney Island AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: George Siler. After both men weighed in at 135lbs Sullivan overcame a first-round knockdown to gradually get on top of Quigley, and by the end of the fourth had his man groggy following a heavy exchange. The fifth saw Sullivan blasting Quigley with body blows and chasing him around the ring. With more of the same in the sixth, Quigley's corner threw up the sponge when their man was taking punches from both hands and staggering around the ring in a drunken state with no defence.
