1899-10-20 (170lbs) Joe Choynski w co 7 (20) Jim Ryan, Broadway AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Made at 170lbs, and a return match between the pair, Choynski (168) was outscoring Ryan (165) right from the opening bell before getting down to business in the seventh. Having smashed Ryan to the floor with a solid right to the jaw, when the latter somehow regained his feet Choynski moved in for the finish and another right to the chin saw the Australian counted out. Choynski next went on to kayo Dick Moore inside three rounds of a catchweight contest at the Athletic Club, St Louis, Missouri on 23 October, just three days later. The report made no mention of any title, although one can safely assume that Moore was inside 170lbs and, had he won, could have had a claim for what it was worth.
